How to Play Minesweeper
Minesweeper is a logic puzzle where your goal is to reveal every safe cell without opening a mine. Press Start Game and begin by selecting a covered square. If the square is safe, it may show a number. That number tells you how many mines are touching the square horizontally, vertically or diagonally.
Use those numbers to work out which nearby cells are safe and which are likely to contain mines. On desktop, you can right-click a covered cell to place or remove a flag. On touch devices, switch on Flag Mode before tapping a cell you want to mark.
Difficulty Levels
Easy uses a smaller grid with fewer mines. Medium increases both the board size and mine count. Hard gives you a larger field with more mines, requiring more careful deduction.
Useful Strategy
- Start by opening a few separated areas instead of flagging immediately.
- If a numbered cell already touches the same number of flags as its value, its other covered neighbours are safe.
- If a numbered cell has exactly enough covered neighbours to account for its missing mines, those covered cells can be flagged.
- Avoid guessing until logical moves have been exhausted.
How to Win
You win when every non-mine cell has been revealed. The timer shows how long the attempt took, making it useful for comparing your own solving speed across later games.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do flags have to be perfect to win? No. The important condition is revealing all safe cells. Can I change difficulty during a game? Changing difficulty starts a fresh board. Does every puzzle require guessing? Many positions can be solved logically, although randomly generated boards can sometimes create uncertain choices.
